This page will concentrate on smelling bottles, pungents and scents we collect.
The purpose of this site is to show other interested collectors variants produced and our collection.
Also, it will help us when traveling and searching for like items for our collection.

smelling bottle or scent, with 14 vertical ribs and pontil mark.
Height, 1 - 3/4 in. Width, 1 - 3/8 in.

A HVI-2 colorless sunburst scent or smelling bottle, with
pontil mark. Height, 1 - 3/4 in. Width, 1 - 3/8 in.
A brilliant blue scent or smelling bottle, with short scroll-ribs and corrugated sides.
Similar to McK. plate 104 #7. Height, 2 - 1/2 in. Width, 1 - 1/2 in.

and pontil mark. Height, 2 - 3/8 in. Width, 1 - 1/8 in.
Right: An early colorless pattern-molded smelling bottle or scent in a round or
flattened globular form, with pontil mark. Height, 2 - 1/4 in. Width, 1 - 3/4 in.
Left: A darker blue scallop or shell shaped smelling bottle or scent with
a burst or sheared top (both pictured). Blown in a two piece mold.

Right: A medium blue smelling bottle or scent in a scroll or violin form.
Blown in a two piece mold. Height, 2 - 1/2 in. Width, 1 - 5/8 in.
Three burst or sheared lip smelling bottles. From left, a light aquamarine with amber streaks
scent with centered bead surrounded by eight, then eight larger beads, then sixteen
rays/petals... on both sides. An odd embossed 'W' is centered on one side of neck.
(2 - 1/4 in. X 1 - 3/4 in.) Next: A medium blue with both sides filled with tiny beads in the
shape of a rotated eye, and ends with 1/4 in. ribs. It has an octagonal formed neck. (2 - 1/8
in. X 1 - 5/8 in.) Last: A light aquamarine with eighteen embossed rays extending from a
single centered bead. This is on one side only. The opposite side is smooth. There are
twenty ribs along it's edge. Similar to McK. plate 104 #5. (1 - 7/8 in. X 1 - 1/2 in.)
Left: Super thin glass aquamarine pinwheel scent, similar to a HVI-6 (only difference is 15
pinwheel rays + 20 domed circles are connected at top) and resembles a McK. plate 104 #3.
Height, 2 - 3/16 in. Width, 1 - 3/4 in. Blown in a two piece mold with pontil mark.
Right: A colorless sunburst smelling bottle or scent in a flattened diamond shape debossed
with eight rays. The edges are corrugated diagonally and it has a pontil marked base. Blown
in a two piece mold. Height, 2 - 15/16 in. Width, 1 - 5/16 in. (McK. plate 105 #15 or a HVII-8)
Left: Violet-blue, with geometric pattern ...ca. 1820-50. It appears to be the exact
mold as pictured in McK. plate 106 #15. Height, 3 - 1/4 in. Width, 15/16 in.
Right: An olive green smelling bottle or scent with twelve ribs above two horizonal
larger ribs above ten lower ribs. Height, 2 - 3/4 in. Width, 1 - 3/4 in.
Left: An early colorless beaded plume with opposite side featuring a beaded oval space,
likely used for a label. A pontil mark is on the base. Height, 2 - 7/8 in. Width, 1 - 3/8 in.
Right: A teal blue/green smelling bottle with a hexagon shaped center and openings at both
ends. Each lip has been ground and smoothed. Length, 2 - 7/8 in. Width, 1 - 3/8 in.
Four colorless smelling bottles in various shapes. All have been blown in a two piece mold, have sheared
tops and have been ground down and tooled. From left, a flattened diamond shape, with multiple smaller
diamonds above and below a blank horizontal band. Next is a tapered scallop shaped specimen with sixteen
rays. The next one is in the form of an acorn. The far right one looks like a berry ...possibly
a fancy strawberry. Lengths from the left: 2 - 1/4 in., 2 - 3/8 in., 2 - 1/4 in., 2 - 3/8 in.
A pair of heart shaped smelling bottles. The variant on the right still
retains some sort of gold paint - McK. plate 104 #8. Heights, 2 - 3/16 in.
Three examples of 'seahorses' or 'dolphin pungents'. From left, one with white and
dark red threads. The next one has thicker white threads and rigaree blue ribbons.
The far right one is less than fancy with only white wider threads.
Lengths from the left: 2 - 1/2 in., 2 - 5/16 in., 2 - 5/8 in.
A tiny coin (actual size of a penny) or round shaped
smelling bottle with white and dark red stripes.
1 - 1/8 in. long by 3/4 in. wide without the cork.
A couple of early lidded waisted octagonal firey opalescent smelling
bottles. Both have ground lips and are 2 - 1/2 in. tall (incl. lid).
Compare them to McK. plate 106 #8 and #9.
A couple of early lidded smelling bottles with ogival sides.
Both have ground lips and are 3 - 1/8 in. tall with the lids.
Compare them to McK. plate 106 #14.
Left: An early emerald green at times teal elliptical smelling bottle with
a geometric pattern. Right: A firey opalescent elliptical smelling bottle
with a geometric pattern. Each lip has been ground and smoothed.
Sizes for both: Length, 3 - 3/16 in. Width, 1 - 1/8 in.
Compare these to McK. plate 106 #17.
Not shown, we also have a colorless variant.
A smelling bottle with white looping - swirls.
It has a pontil scarred base and is 2 - 7/8 in. long.
A blue smelling bottle with what looks like a triple XXX.
We've only seen two others like these and one was colorless.
It is only 2 - 5/8 in. tall and has a nice flask-like shape.
The base is smooth and has a couple of tiny faint slanted letters.
A deep amethyst smelling bottle often called the 'daisy'.
It has a pontil scarred base and a cork as a closure.
(McK. plate 105 #8 or a HVI-1) ca. 1815-35, 1 - 7/8 in.
A deep cobalt blue sunburst - diamond panel smelling bottle'.
It has a smooth base with beveled sides.
(similar to McK. plate 105 #7 or a HVII-3) ca. 1815-35, 2 - 5/8 in.
A run of amethyst pattern molded smelling bottles.
Sizes from the left: 2 - 5/8 in., 2 - 7/8 in., 3 - 7/8 in., 3 - 3/16 in., 3 in.

A deep cobalt blue short rounded form pattern molded smelling bottle.
1 - 7/8 in. H, pontil scarred base, unusual, ca. 1815-35.
This is the example pictured in American Bottles & Flasks by
McKearin/ Wilson. Ex. George McKearin and Arthur Barris Collections.
A medium electric blue shield shaped sunburst smelling bottle.
Very little room inside = interior glass is almost halfway.
2 - 3/4 in. H, pontil scarred base, ca. 1815-35.
(Similar to McK. plate 105 #4 or a HIV-2)
A light aquamarine VR - Crown - Flower embossed smelling bottle.
Reportedly dug in an 1840s privy in SW Pennsylvania.
2 - 3/4 in. H, pontil scarred base and sheared lip, ca. 1835-45.
More than likely European, other examples are known in light blue.
A deep cobalt blue concentric ring smelling bottle.
Similar in form to the 'concentric ring' flask of the same time period.
2 - 1/8 in. H, pontil scarred base, ca. 1815-35.
(McK. plate 105 #13 or similar to a McK. plate 104 #4)
A deep cobalt blue pattern molded smelling bottle.
Vertical ribbed 2 in. H, pontil scarred base, ca. 1815-35. (similar to a McK. plate 103 #4)
A deep purplish cobalt blue mold blown smelling bottle.
Both sides are different with flowers or plants emerging from hearts.
Sides have two rows of five point stars.
3 - 1/16 in. H, pontil scarred base, possibly unique.
A deep purplish cobalt blue mold blown shield shaped smelling bottle.
Both sides are alike with flowers or plants with a crown (maybe) centered.
The right side of each beveled area has three small horizontal lines.
2 - 3/4 in. H, pontil scarred base, possibly unique.
A pair of early bulbous scents, colorless and olive green.
The colorless has six and the olive green has four, vertical spans of applied rigaree.
2 - 1/2 in., 2 - 3/4 in. H, both bases are pontil scarred.
A deep purplish cobalt blue mold blown sunburst smelling bottle.
One side has a diamond with four diamonds inside.
The obverse has an eight ray debossed sunburst with smaller outer rays.
The 'Peace' - 'Plenty' HI-1+2 are the only known embossed scents... until now.
The diamond side shoulder of this has 'HI' or 'IH' embossed.
2 - 5/8 in., base is pontil scarred, possibly unique.
A colorless scroll or lyre type mold blown smelling bottle.
2 - 3/8 in. and wide opening.
A deep cobalt arrowhead form, 3 - 1/8 in., pontil scarred
base, ca. 1815-35. Similar to the Sapphire blue on the
second row, bottom of the page at this link:
Sunburst and Similar Scent Bottles
An early colorless flat ovoid smelling
bottle with rigaree, 3 - 3/8 in.
Marbleized blue and white, waisted octagonal smelling bottle with threaded
neck, ground top and metal cap., ca. 1850-88, 2 - 1/2 in. with cap.
A pair of yellow green and aqua ribbed European [?] smelling
bottles. Blown in two piece molds, one with a burst top and
the aqua is tooled, 3 in. and 2 - 3/8 in.
A deep cobalt blue, vertical and horizontal rib
pattern smelling bottle. 2 - 3/8 in., pontil scarred base.
A colorless round flattened blown-three-mold smelling bottle
with geometric pattern; top and bottom vertical ribs with
a diamond pattern centered. It resembles a No. 2 stopper type
on page 273, American Glass by McKearin... 2 - 3/16 in.
A tiny colorless round flattened smelling bottle with white ribbons and
applied green and amethyst beads. One side has a heart and the letters M.G.
The other has an underlined 1817... 1 - 9/16 in. tall by 1 in. wide.
